Rudo Kemper is a geographer with the Amazon Conservation Team (ACT) who supports indigenous and other local communities in mapping their ancestral lands and safeguarding their intangible cultural heritage and traditional knowledge. Rudo leads ACT’s oral history mapping program in South America and serves as product owner of the free and open-source geostorytelling application Terrastories, designed for remote communities to safeguard their place-based oral storytelling traditions using interactive maps and multimedia content. He co-develops ACT’s data collection and mapping methodologies, designs cartographic and interactive maps, and provides strategic support to the organization in programmatic areas and public affairs, in particular for its Northeast Amazon program and the Suriname office in Paramaribo.

Rudo is currently board president of the International Society for Participatory Mapping and a board member of Native Land Digital. His academic background includes an M.A. and Ph.D. research in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as an M.A. in International Administration from the University of Miami. Originally from Curaçao, Rudo has worked with indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples across the Americas, from Canada to the Amazon.
